NE Oklahoma City Beautification Day: Saturday, April 17th

NE Oklahoma City Beautification day on April 17th is part of the statewide Trash off day and the Oklahoma City Beautiful Litter programs. Volunteers are asked to meet at 8:30 AM at Ralph Ellison Library to pick up trash bags and will concentrate on NE 23rd, 36th and Lincoln Blvd.

NE Oklahoma City Town Hall meeting: Thursday, April 22nd

NE Oklahoma City Town Hall Meeting Featuring locally elected officials discussing important community topics on April 22nd from 7 pm to 9 pm at Metro Tech Springlake Campus Auditorium 1900 Springlake Dr.

hile the Town Hall meeting will focus on important community issues, there will be a presentation about the current and future challenges we face concerning education performance in the community. Okla. City School Board Chair Angela Monson will talk about the Community Advisory Program and the changes in school graduation requirements. In the past, graduation required only that students passed all required courses. Starting with the graduating class of 2012, the new law requires students to pass the courses and also pass four "end-of instruction exams" (EOIs).

Unfortunately, right now only 1 out of 5 students in our best neighborhood schools fail these exams.  Moreover, in our lowest performing schools, 3 out of 5 students fail these exams.  This could have serious consequences for our young people who will not longer be college graduates and will be considered under-educated citizens. Please join us as we discuss this and other important issues impacting NE Oklahoma City.
