June Luncheon Well Attended

The first of the Summer Luncheon series was a great success, with close to a hundred Capitol Chamber, business and community leaders in attendance. “We are very pleased with the turnout and the excellent program, said Capitol Board Chairman John Hasley.

“We wanted to provide a program that was both interesting and informative. That would entice members to come to the luncheon.”

The program opened with a welcome from Remington Park General Manager Scott Wells who welcomed us to the facility and talked about efforts by Remington to develop a hotel and meeting center as part of the facility.

The program then proceeded into the panel discussion by Northeast Oklahoma City legislators:

Sen. Connie Johnson
Sen. Andrew Rice
Rep. Mike Shelton
Rep. Anastasia Pittman

They highlighted what did and did not happen this legislative session, focusing on issues such as affordable housing for first time homeowners, the problem of HIV/AIDS in minority communities, the fight against gang violence and the need for economic development in the Northeast Oklahoma City.

Hasley noted, “This was the first step in developing a comprehensive legislative program for 2008 that will reflect the priorities of the Northeast Oklahoma City Business Community.”

The Remington park staff also conducted tours of the facilities to show off the new Casino and promote the venue as a meeting place and entertainment destination.
